September Poe & Poets: a ‘Back to School’ special event
About this event:
Our popular Poe & Poets live poetry reading series has returned! Join us the second Sunday of each month for a reading of selected poetry and open mic.
September means Back to School for Maryland students, so this month’s Poe & Poets event is just for kids! This Sunday starting at 2PM, students 10 and older are invited to participate in a special reading and poetry-writing activity at Poe House. Activity and discussion will be led by Poe House Director, Enrica Jang.
Students will participate in a group reading of two Poe poems, “To Helen” and “The Bells”. The reading will be followed by a writing activity where students will learn about two types of form in some of Poe’s most famous poetry. Older students will get to compose their own pieces in a take-home journal. Younger students will learn about acrostic poems, and have a chance to decorate their new pieces in take-home frames.
Space and supplies are limited so please RSVP and arrive just before 2PM. This event is included with the price of admission to Poe House.
(Please note: The House is small with tight winding staircases and may not be suitable for all visitors. As well, since our visitors include young children, we ask that all readings be ‘family friendly’. Visitors to the Poe House & Museum must pay our normal admission fee.)
Should you have any questions, please let us know several days prior to the event.
