We’re joining Poppleton’s family-friendly community celebration on Saturday, August 29 (12-3pm) that will be centered at the Poe Homes’ new basketball court. (What new court? The Department of Parks and Recreation is installing one as we speak. HUGE thanks are due to Poe Baltimore’s ex officio Board Member and civic-minded community leader, Ms. Lorraine Ledbetter for leading this great incentive to benefit the neighborhood’s kids!)
We’re contributing 500 special Poe history/poetry booklets that will be shared with 500 kids who will also receive special back-to-school backpacks, and we’re offering Poe Homes families free admission to the Poe House (203 N. Amity Street) between 12:30-2pm.
Besides that, there will be food and music, games, a bouncy-house, a poetry reading by Homer Smith, arts and crafts workshops for kids (including a bit of Raven fun), free passes to the B&O Railroad Museum, and lots more fun at their 800 W. Lexington community center.
Our contributions were made possible in part by the 2015 MECU Neighborhood Event Grants program, a community incentive that is supported by MECU: Baltimore’s Credit Union and administered by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts. Additional support was provided by the Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development. So we’re especially thankful to MECU, Baltimore’s Credit Union and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts for helping to make our contributions this 2015 Back-to-School event possible!
