Day of the Dead@ the Poe House!
About this event:
Día de Muertos will be happening @ the Poe House! So we’re calling you—yes YOU!—our dearest Annabel Lee, oh melancholic Arthur Gordon Pym, our beautiful Mme. Ligeia, the doppelganger Roderick Usher, sweet blonde-tressed Lady Rowena, rivalrous Tamerlane, pesky black cat, blind-as-a-bat Napoleon Buonaparte Froissart, enigmatic C. Auguste Dupin, ungainly ravens, and more!
When you come tap, tap, tapping at our chamber door between 12-3pm on NOVEMBER 1 and 2 and look convincing enough to fool Poe, we’ll ADMIT YOU FOR FREE to the Poe House & Museum.
Yes, EVERYONE tapping at our chamber door who is disguised as a recognizable Poe character will be admitted to the museum FOR FREE! (Please note—you’ll need to do more than pencil-in a Poe/John Waters-like moustache, and those WITHOUT costumes will pay our regular admission price.)
Please feel free to also bring your “ofrendas” (traditional Mexican offerings like marigolds, sugar skulls, photos, notes, or…) for our small outdoor altar to honor the deceased, whether your loved ones or others. We’ll look forward to honoring the dead during this 165th anniversary of Poe’s demise.
PS: Our apologies to those who hoped we’d be open October 31 for some spooky Halloween trick-or-treating– we’re unable to staff the house that day. (Every hour we’re open costs more than $25, and while we’re aiming to open the house Wednesdays to Sundays, at this point, that’s not yet possible.) With your help, hopefully we’ll be open more frequently in 2015!
