2018 has been an amazing, record year for Poe Baltimore. Not only will we once again welcome over 12,000 visitors to Poe’s house, but programming continues to be our focus in the coming year, including a new honor to celebrate Poe’s legacy in the arts, and the return of Poe Fest International. Our Poe-nation Donation Holiday Drive will help us fulfill Poe Baltimore’s mission to keep Poe House open to visitors and celebrate Poe’s legacy in Baltimore and beyond. We have a $5000 funding goal and we need you to help us keep Poe’s chamber door open and support planned Poe Programming in 2019! Even PAVERS have returned, along with more fun rewards for donations.

As though you needed another wonderful reason to support Poe Baltimore, we’re excited to share news of  The Saturday ‘Visiter’ Awards, celebrating Poe’s enduring legacy for a new generation of artists and writers. Call for entries will open on Poe’s birthday in January. Holiday items and ornaments have also arrived at Poe House, and the date for our POEZELLA birthday bash for Poe has been set! Click here to learn about all our happenings, and don’t forget to make Poe Baltimore part of your Holiday and end-of-year giving.

Our crowd estimate came in at nearly 2000 people who attended the inaugural International Edgar Allan Poe Festival & Awards and made our event a resounding success! We’ve posted photos at PoeBaltimore.org and even more from the Poe Funeral re-enactment and The Black Cat Ball on Facebook, so be sure to take a peek. Also included are pictures from the sold-out Halloween Encore at The Carroll Mansion!

Even more is planned at Poe House as Fall transitions to Winter. Our end-of-year house exhibits will feature Mourning Words, a haunting collection of images from Poe’s grave at Westminster Burial Ground by featured artist, Crystal Micriotti. While you’re here, view the new and updated exhibit cards throughout the museum and pick up the 2019 Poe House calendar and more gifts from Poe House and Poe Fest Int’l in the gift shop! Spring News from Poe Baltimore

Of the many wonderful news and events we’ll share with you in our latest dispatch, the very best is that Poe House is open and ready for a new season of visitors! Construction is wrapping up across from 203 N. Amity Street, and the final slurry of activity before our new Center/West neighbors move in is keeping the road a little busy. We’re still here every Thursday thru Sunday from 11AM to 4 PM. Brave the roads, and step through our chamber door.

In this newsletter you’ll find updates about recent preservation work at Poe’s house, the final tally from our wildly successful Pavers for Poe campaign, plus a new date and location for our annual Pints for Poe event, this year at Camden Yards! So much wonderful news to share, and this is still just the start of a brand new season. We hope you’ll join us. Spring has most definitely SPRUNG at Poe House! The Edgar Allan Poe House and Museum is currently closed while the house undergoes some much-needed preservation work. The house will reopen on April 5, 2018.

Don’t Despair! If you are wondering what to do while the house is closed, you have options. In addition to visiting Poe’s graves, explore our two pop-up exhibitions located at Carroll Mansion and the Inner Harbor’s Visitors Center

The Caroll Mansion Museum at 800 E. Lombard Street is less than one city block from the site where an insensate and ill Edgar Allan Poe was discovered  in the street just four days before his death in 1849. The special Poe pop-up exhibit features photos and objects from The Edgar Allan Poe House, and is included with your $5 museum admission to Carroll Mansion. The museum is open to visitors every Saturday and Sunday, from 11AM to 4PM.

While you’re downtown, stop into the Inner Harbor Visitor Center at 400 Light Street to see a pop-up exhibit featuring details about Poe’s life and writing in Baltimore. The exhibit is FREE, and guests can also pick up a copy of the Poe House calendar (while supplies last!) The center is open to visitors every Tuesday through Sunday.

Need more Poe exposure? You can also visit the various “Poe Places” located throughout Baltimore City. For more details, click on this link.

We look forward to welcoming our beloved Poe House visitors in April!

We ended 2017 with 12,953 visitors to Poe House, only the snow kept us from hitting that lucky 13K. Amazed and astounded! Check out our final newsletter for the year-end wrap up. We’re already moving to begin 2018 with events to remember! Want to get automatic newsletter updates about goings on at Poe House?  Sign up right here if you haven’t yet joined.

Well, get ready. There’s an even bigger announcement still to spring before month’s end. We hope you’ll join us!
