Description
Visit Carroll Mansion and explore exhibits by Poe Baltimore every Saturday and Sunday, 11AM to 4PM.
Timed admission includes access to all current exhibits. Please note: The Phoenix Shot Tower is temporarily closed, and the Flag House is not open Sundays or Mondays.
THE POE DEATH EXHIBIT
Uncover the chilling mystery of Edgar Allan Poe’s final days in Baltimore. Examine theories surrounding his death in 1849 and the clues found in the clothes he wore. Includes a candle-lit vigil and mobile app audio guide.
Viewer discretion advised: exhibit includes funeral imagery and themes of death.
THE RAVEN ROOM
A full display of Gustave Doré’s 26 iconic illustrations for The Raven, completed just months before the artist’s death. At the center, a 20-foot mural by Michael Kirby reimagines Poe’s “ominous bird of yore” in sweeping, contemporary form.
POE, REVOLUTION, AND THE MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE
Life-sized dioramas tell the little-known story of Poe’s grandparents and their ties to General Lafayette during the American Revolution—a bond that helped shape their grandson’s future. Created in honor of the upcoming America 250 commemoration.
CARROLL MANSION
Tour 200 years of Baltimore history inside the former winter home of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, last living and only Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence. After his death in 1832, the mansion evolved into a saloon, tenement, school, and community center.
PHOENIX SHOT TOWER (CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE)
Built in 1828, the Shot Tower once stood as the tallest structure in the United States and produced 2.5 million pounds of lead “drop” shot annually. It remains one of only three surviving shot towers in the country.
NOTE FOR ATTENDEES:
This event takes place at Carroll Mansion, 800 E. Lombard Street, Baltimore. The mansion and Shot Tower are historic properties with no elevators and steep stairs. These sites may not be accessible or suitable for all visitors. For visitors looking to purchase the drop in option for the Flag House, be aware they are not open Sunday or Monday. You may still drop in any other day of the week.
